Friday Night Light - Sad Loss

Today there are five meetings.  Jumps cards at Newbury, Doncaster and Kelso plus flat cards at Lingfield and Chelmsford.  David does not have any runners today but Tom Scu has some rides at Newbury.  The best of these looks to be Molineaux at 4.15pm.  They have the Bloor Homes charity race at Newbury at 5.25pm and I see Jimmy Frost is riding one for Neil Mulholland.  Unfortunately Jimmy is no where near as stylish as daughter Bryony but he is pretty effective!  Good luck to Jimmy and everyone taking part, it should be a good watch.

It was a terrible day for the yard yesterday as we unfortunately lost Friday Night Light at Newbury.  He was just staying on at the third last hurdle when he sadly fell and was fatally injured.  Our thoughts and best wishes are with his owners Caroline Tisdall and William Frewen and everyone in the yard, especially Gemma Humphrey who looked after him.  It is hard to know what to say but he was a lovely chap to ride and do anything to and he will be sadly missed.  He was in his prime at only six years old and it has hit everyone pretty hard.  Sleep tight boy.

Legal History finished second at Doncaster yesterday and while he was declared to run again at the track this afternoon he is safely back in the yard and does not run.  He ran a nice race and travelled and jumped very well but just looked to get outstayed up the run in.  He should have no trouble in going one place better, maybe on a tighter track.

Kelso racecourse have got there most valuable race day of the season today and they are not happy that they have only got 37 runners for their entire card.  I wonder if the meeting is simply too close to the Cheltenham Festival?  They have a race with prize money of £34,000 up for grabs and there are only five runners and there is also a six runner race for £28,000.  You have to admit that it is a shame for the track, especially when there are big debates going on elsewhere currently over prize money.

Jockey Liam Keniry made a very expensive phone call yesterday.  He was fined £290 by the stewards after he was caught using his phone outside the designated area at Lingfield.  I wonder if the person he was speaking to will help pay the fine?!

In the football there is a good local derby today, Tottenham versus Arsenal at 12.30pm.  Even though Spurs are playing badly I think they should still beat the Gunners at 11/10.  My team West Ham are 23/20 to beat Newcastle and Brighton are 17/20 to beat Huddersfield.

It looks like Roger Federer can win his 100th ATP tour title today as he plays Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final in Dubai.  What a credit he has been to tennis over the years.  Andy Murray was spotted in a Thai restaurant and he posed for a photo with a fan but he was still using one crutch.  It looks like a race against time is he is hoping to play at Wimbledon this year.  Actually, the restaurant he was in was in Wimbledon.  This could be the nearest he gets to centre court perhaps?!

What starts with a P and ends with an E and has a million letter in it?  Post Office!!  Have a nice day.
