There are just two meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps fixtures from Fontwell and Carlisle.  There are no runners from Pond House today, although Tom Scudamore has to make the long trip back from Newcastle as he has picked up a couple of outside rides a Fontwell...looking at them, he could be aboard a winner.

I was pleased to see Catterick rewarded with a good turnout for their meeting after granting racegoers free admission.  I think that more racecourses should look at doing this, especially as they will more than likely get the cost of admission back over the bar via food and drink.  We have to get more youngsters onto the course and interested in the sport.  Racing seems to be getting less and less publicity each year, so we need to work twice as hard to bring the sport to the forefront.

Talking of Catterick, I see that trainer Keith Dalgleish is facing a fine from the BHA after sending the wrong horse to the course on Friday.  I find it hard to imagine how this can happen...surely the lad or lass taking the horse would know the difference.  Having said that, we have Craig in our yard so I suppose it is always possible (only joking Craig!).

I always take a look at the cold list in the Racing Post before backing any horses I fancy and was surprised to see Neil Mulholland there - he has now gone 35 runners and a month without a winner.

If you like a little ante-post wager, I am told that Magna Grecia is fancied for the Epsom Derby.  He is a 33/1 shot a present, although I can't imagine that will be around for long as most of the firms are only 25/1.

There are a couple of big football matches today as Chelsea take on Manchester City at 4.30pm in the EFL Cup Final.  City are 4/7 shots and that looks a decent bet to me.  Meanwhile, Manchester United versus Liverpool looks like a good match and I will be backing the Scousers at 7/5.  Both matches are on the television today so you know where I will be!

On the subject of Chelsea, I understand that they are set to spend £200 million in the summer.  It sounds like a lot but it is only three or four players and I think they need more than that.

Three McLaren mechanics suffered minor burns after a fire in their garage whilst they were taking part in a filming day during pre-season testing at Barcelona.  You would think they would refrain from smoking in the garage!  The new season gets underway in just three weeks' time....that has come around quickly.

I went to buy some tennis balls from Ebay last night but the site kept crashing.  They must be having problems with their server.
