There are just two meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Huntingdon and Market Rasen.  There are no runners from Pond House today, although stable jockey Tom Scudamore travels to Huntingdon for one outside ride.  Over at Market Rasen, I notice that there is a two runner novices' chase which is worth almost £14,000 so you only have to school around there to earn some good prize money.  Whatever tweaks were made to the novices' chase programme clearly haven't worked if this is any kind of barometer.

I see that quite a few jockeys went to Chamonix in France for a bit of skiing whilst there was no racing on.  I am informed that Josh Moore and Tom Cannon are a bit handy on the slopes.  Everyone I have ever know who has tried skiing has come back with some sort of injury.  Luckily, they all made it back in one piece.

Jockey Sam Twiston-Davies recently paid a visit to the Racing Post offices in London and was shocked by how busy it was.  He said the underground was packed and he had never seen so many people, "Don't  forget, I was brought up in the middle of a field in Gloucestershire."  I can remember going up Twiston's gallops many years ago and Sam was sat on the roof of the car...and I am not joking!

There are plenty of fifth round FA Cup football matches to look forward to today.  I will be backing Wolves at 10/11 to beat Bristol City, Crystal Palace at 8/13 to beat Doncaster and Swansea at 6/4 to beat Brentford.

The snooker results seem to be all over the place at the moment.  In what other sport would the world number 103 beat a four times world champion?  Well that is what happened to John Higgins in the Welsh Open earlier this week.  It seems that any player can beat one of the top seeds on a good day nowadays.  Talking of snooker, I had a cup of tea with former six times world champion Ray Reardon this week, now he is a true legend.

I went into my local library the other day and asked the librarian if she had any books on shelving.  She said, "Yes, all of them!".
