We are back racing!  I am pleased to tell you there are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps racing from Plumpton and Musselburgh and all-weather flat fixtures from Southwell and Kempton.  Mind you, looking at the prize money from Southwell you wouldn't think so with just £36,000 prize money across their entire card!  David has two runners at Plumpton today with Duc de Beauchene and Three Star General.  Duc de Beauchene contests the 2m4½f handicap hurdle at 3.10pm - he has run some promising races to date and is likely to appreciate this step-up in trip and gets the softish ground that he wants.  He looks to have a decent chance under Tom Scudamore.  Three Star General (pictured above) runs in the 3m1f handicap hurdle at 4.10pm - he has finished runner-up over course and distance but has to shoulder top weight of 11-12.  He has each-way claims with Tom Scu in the saddle.

With four meetings taking place this afternoon, it looks as though it is going to be an enjoyable afternoon in front of the television for me!  When racing hasn't been on for a day or two it is amazing just how much you miss it.

Manchester United were blown away 2-0 at home by Paris St Germain in their Champions League match and it was one of their old players Angel di Maria who did all the damage.  United are not good enough to score three without reply in the Parc des Princes in the return leg so it looks like everyone around Old Trafford have been getting carried away in recent weeks...this was certainly a reality check for them.  United need at least four or five new players, especially defenders.

You probably won't believe this, but England beat the West Indies in the latest cricket test match.  Mind you, the Windies have already won the series.

You know why they call him Ronnie 'The Rocket' O'Sullivan...he is so quick around the table that he struck a red before the pink that he was potting had sunk...unsurprisingly he was penalised for that.  You have to feel sorry for the ref when he is trying to keep up with that sort of play!

I was saddened to hear that the greatest goal keeper Gordon Banks has passed away at the age of 81.  The keeper for England's World Cup winning squad in 1966, he is also universally remembered for his save against Pele in the 1970 World Cup.  Every time I watch it back, it gets better.  A great man, he will be sadly missed.

How do you find Will Smith in the snow?  You look for fresh prints!  Keep smiling...
