It looks like this equine flu outbreak is going to shut down racing for at least six days after three horses from Donald McCain's yard tested positive.  The blanket ban means a total loss of at least 23 meetings including the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury on Saturday.  Racing will not resume on these shores until Wednesday of next week at the very earliest.  Over 100 yards were locked down for two weeks with no movement of horses allowed in or out of those stables.  Pond House is not one of those yards affected - we have always routinely taken temperatures and we continue to be meticulous about our biochemical protocol with disinfectant dips at every access point and staff issued with anti-bacterial hand gel like you find in hospitals and we will be raring to go as soon as racing resumes.

Meanwhile, over in Ireland they are carrying on as normal at the moment, although British runners are not permitted over there.  Consequently it looks as though we are going to be treated to five races from Naas on ITV 4 on Saturday!

There is a great article in today's Racing Post about Bonanza Boy winning the Racing Post Chase in 1989.  Despite instructions to the contrary, he was last with a circuit to go and not travelling at all well.  I remember a well known trainer standing next to me saying that Scu should pull him up.  I won't mention Martin's name, but somehow Scu managed to galvanise his thoroughly game mount and picking off opponents one by one, he somehow managed to get his head in front close home to win.  You can tell from the picture they use in the paper that Martin was in complete shock, while owner's George, Angie and her dad Steve were all euphoric.  I would have to say that this wasn't Bonanza Boy's finest performance...that arguably came at Ludlow with a certain David Pipe in the saddle!  If you live in Cornwall you won't be able to buy a Racing Post today as our great friends George and Angie will have already bought them all!

Looking through the Irish card from Dundalk tonight, they have eight races starting at 5.00pm and I am told that Royal Court will win the 7.00pm race for Joseph O'Brien.  He has three placed efforts to date that read well in this context.

Aston Villa play Sheffield United tonight and I will be having a little wager on Sheffield at 17/10 to give me an interest.
