There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Cheltenham, Doncaster and Uttoxeter as well as all-weather flat cards from Lingfield and Chelmsford.  David has one runner today; Delface (pictured above) who contests the opening conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter at 1.05pm.  Our six year old is in good form and was a winner over course and distance last time.  He is 6lbs higher today which seems reasonable enough and he would appear to have leading claims despite joint top-weight of 12-0.  Kieron Edgar takes the ride.

The racing at Cheltenham and Doncaster looks to be highly competitive as you would expect.  The Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham has only attracted six runners and I think that Bryony Frost could go very close with course specialist Frodon.  Bryony is like a breath of fresh air for racing but goodness knows what she will be like if she wins today...the interviewer may struggle to get a word in!

I see that it is Sandy May's birthday today.  Sandy rode a winner for me as an owner many years ago when Manrico won at Hereford...happy memories!  Many happy returns Sandy, we hope you have a great day.

Does it ever rain in Barbados?  England will be doing all kinds of rain dances in an effort to save their bacon in the first test match against the West Indies.  They have been set 628 to win by the home team and there are still two days to go!  We need our batsmen to bat for two days straight and that is a tall order, particularly as our players seem tailored to the one day format and play far too many attacking shots to remain at the crease for any prolonged period of time.

How has Ole Gunnar Solskjaer managed to get Manchester United playing so well?  All his players are chasing around after the ball and even running back.  They have now managed to win eight games in a row and I reckon they should give him the manager's job straight away.

Talking of football, I will be having a little wager on Derby at 20/23, Brighton at 22/23 and Nottingham Forest at 23/20.  That should put the bread on the table in the Barnes household.
