There is some better news...with temperatures rising there are no inspections planned ahead of today's fixtures so hopefully all of the action will take place.  There are four meetings planned with jumps cards from Huntingdon and Doncaster as well as all-weather flat cards from Lingfield and Newcastle.  Stable jockeys Tom Scudamore and David Noonan have both picked up outside rides at Huntingdon and a couple of them look to have chances.

According to the latest figures, attendances at British racecourses have fallen for the third year in a row.  Our sport needs more publicity and the prices of getting into the tracks lowered as current costs are keeping youngsters from going racing.  Under 16's should be let in for free and then hopefully if they have a good experience they will come back as paying customers when they are a bit older.  Some fourth division football teams get more spectators than the racecourses.  My son went to see Bath versus Torquay the other night and there was over 3,000 people watching and they are non-league.  The racecourses have their work cut out for them as people can also watch every race from the comfort of their living rooms these days.  Furthermore, they can bet on their portable devices.

I see that the point-to-point fixtures really get going this weekend with six meetings.  One of them is very local to the yard with Chipley Park hosting their meeting between Wellington and Milverton on Sunday.  The first race is at 11.30am and has 177 entries which is the most of any of the meetings.  Furthermore, I know that David and a few of the staff often pop along to this one, so if you see him do say hello!

I was watching the racing from Gowran Park yesterday and I thought that Presenting Percy battled on gamely to make a winning reappearance over hurdles.  He now heads to Cheltenham and is the favourite for the Gold Cup.  Mind you, that represents a big step-up from winning a three mile hurdle.

The fourth round of the FA Cup takes places tonight and the pick of the matches is undoubtedly Arsenal versus Manchester United.  Let's hope United's goalie is in good form.  Arsenal are 13/8 and are the home team.

Having looked to be in control in the early stages, England are in deep trouble in the cricket against the West Indies.  England were bowled out for just 77 runs in their first innings having been 23-0.  Then they lost all ten wickets for just 54 runs.  The West Indies are 127-6 in their second innings and it looks like England are facing a long spell at the crease in their second innings just to force a draw.  It looks like we are not as good as we think we are!
