There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps fixtures from Warwick and Sedgefield as well as an all-weather flat fixture from Wolverhampton.  There are no runners from Pond House today although David Noonan heads to Warwick for an outside ride.  Of our runners over the weekend, I thought that Aurillac ran well at Exeter on Sunday to finish fourth.  He was under pressure a long way out but kept going well and was beaten only five lengths.  After three pulled-up efforts and a string of problems, this was certainly a step back in the right direction.

Talking of Exeter, I thought they were offering a good deal yesterday - if you bought your tickets in advance, you could get in for just a fiver each.  Hopefully such concessions will help to get the younger punters onto the track and enjoying our sport.

Many happy returns to Richard Pitman.  Aside from riding many a big race winner (and infamously finishing second aboard Crisp in the Grand National), Richard also wrote Martin's book.  You should all have read it by now...if not, why not?

I see that Well Chief has been ranked number 23 in the Racing Post's list of great two mile chasers.  Not bad when you think of all the good winners of the Queen Mother that are ranked behind him.  I am sure David would love to have another one like Well Chief.

I hope a few of you followed my football bets over the weekend as they all won.  Spurs took an eternity to get the better of Fulham 2-1.  They certainly look like they are missing Harry Kane and need some help urgent help at centre forward - the papers are suggesting it could be Andy Carroll but he has to be one of the most injury plagued players of all time.  I certainly don't thing they need him.  Manchester City had nothing more than a training game as they routed Huddersfield 3-0.

Tonight Bolton take on West Brom and with Bolton really struggling for form I think that the 5/6 available about West Brom looks to be a good bet.

How long does it take to go to the loo?  Well, Maria Sharapova took a seven minute long comfort break during her Australian Open match with Ashleigh Barty, which incidentally she lost.  I guess you could say she was dumped out of the tournament!  The crowd really booed her.

Thought for the day...light travels faster than sound.  That is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak!  Keep smiling...
