Legal History has shown lots of ability
on the flat and an aptitude for hurdling
having finished placed in his three starts
to date, including when second to a
subsequent winner last time.
There should be plenty more
to come and he will be winning races soon.

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Huntingdon and Sedgefield as well as all-weather flat cards from Lingfield and Wolverhampton.  There are no runners from Pond House today and it looks as though stable jockeys Tom Scudamore and David Noonan have decided to take the day off as well.  Meanwhile, over in Ireland I see that the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board have decided to put five year bans on any Irish based jockeys testing positive for cocaine.  Is this the best way to get the message across?  I suppose something needed doing...they have already handed out a five year and four year ban and there is another case about to get underway.  Do the jockeys need banning or do they actually need help?

I thought that Conor O'Farrell gave Flowery a great ride to win at Catterick yesterday.  The seven year old hung terribly, looking really awkward.  He also managed to get bookmakers out of a bit of a hole as the previous five favourites had won.

It is former flat champion jockey Richard Hughes 46th birthday today.  He told me and Martin some great stories when we went to visit his yard with AP just before Christmas.  He is a real character and does not sound or look like a 46 year old!

The football action tonight is between Leeds and Derby.  Derby look overpriced at 7/2 so I will be having a bit of that.  Leeds have lots of injury worries so Derby may just have caught them at the right time.

A tennis match-fixing ring involving 28 players has been smashed by Spanish police.  European law agency Europol said that at least 97 matches from lower tier and challenger tournaments were fixed with an American gang being held responsible.  Earlier in the week, eleven raids were carried out with £151,000 in cash seized as well as a shotgun and five luxury vehicles, while 42 bank accounts were frozen...sounds serious.  Mind you, if someone tried to get a large wager on a low level tennis match would you not be suspicious?

Following a practice match in which he was beaten 6-1 6-1 by world number one Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray conducted a tearful press conference in which he announced that he intended to retire after this year's Wimbledon tournament.  Murray says that he has been struggling with his hip injury for 20 months and is far from sure that he will be able to play through the pain and may not make Wimbledon.  He acknowledged that he can play to a certain level, but not that of the old Murray...a great shame.
