There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Leicester and Catterick as well as all-weather flat fixtures from Southwell and Chelmsford.  There are no runners from the Pond House team today although stable jockey Tom Scudamore has picked up an outside ride at Leicester.  I thought that Legal History ran another promising race at Taunton yesterday afternoon, finishing fourth in the maiden hurdle behind a useful winner.  He has shown enough to suggest that he will be winning races over hurdles before too long.

The bookies at Taunton must have done a few quid yesterday with the first five favourites all obliging.  I love seeing the bookmakers cry, it means that us punters have won!  The four favourites won at Doncaster so perhaps the current good ground is helping the form horses come to the fore?

I see that it is Keith Webb's birthday today.  Keith has been an owner at Pond House for many years with his lovely wife Lynne and they have had some terrific horses over the years - most recently Purple 'N Gold and now Jacbequick.  Some people are just born lucky!  Talking of birthday's, Malcolm Jones is 65 today - he was one of the owners of Pridwell.  Now there was a character.  Anyway, many happy returns gents.

What a score last night for Manchester City as they beat Burton Albion 9-0.  At least they had some shooting practice.  It is not all bad news for Burton however, they will have made a few quid from the 32,000 people who turned up to watch it.

Talking of Manchester City, I see their former goalie and England keeper Jo Hart's career continues on the slide.  Preston asked Burnley if they could take him on loan...they were knocked back but it just illustrates how Hart's career is now in free fall.

New England cricketing supremo Ashley Giles is threatening to ban England's cricketers from their daily football matches.  In Sri Lanka last year Jonny Bairstow tore ankle ligaments.  I know banning football matches doesn't sound like a big deal, but the players take it so seriously they even have a golden boot award.  Over the years quite a few players have been injured.  What other sport could they play before Test matches...don't say ping pong!
