There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Newbury, Doncaster and Kelso as well as an all-weather flat card from Southwell.  The stable has three runners today; Legal History, Aurillac and Teaser.  Legal History contests the 2m½f juvenile hurdle at Newbury at 12.05pm.  He makes his debut for the stable and over hurdles today having been purchased at the Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale at Newmarket.  He was a useful performer on the flat even though he did not manage to get his head in front and he looks to have fair claims under Tom Scudamore.  Aurillac runs in the 3m2f handicap chase at 2.25pm.  Our eight year old had some very useful form but has not run since March 2017 - he goes nicely at home but is fully entitled to come on for the run.

Our runner at Doncaster is Teaser (pictured above), who goes in the two mile handicap hurdle at 11.50am.  He won at Warwick on good/soft ground last time out and only has 10-9 on his back due in large part to his age allowance.  Purchased from a seller on the flat, he is already looking like another shrewd purchase and at odds of around 8/1 he would have each way claims under David Noonan.

Percy Street ran a solid race at Leicester yesterday, finishing second in the 1m7½f handicap hurdle, beaten only ¾ length.  Providing the handicapper doesn't get carried away he should be capable of winning something similar.  Typically, he was put up by 1lb for finishing fourth on his penultimate start...could that have made the difference between winning and losing yesterday?

I see that it is Harvey Smith's 80th birthday today.  Harvey always comes over to chat with me and Martin whenever we see him at the races.  He is a real horseman and racing could do with a few more characters like him.  Catterick presented him with a fancy stick to mark his birthday which I thought was a nice touch.

There were 3,000 people at Lingfield yesterday which I didn't think was that many when you consider that a lot of people still haven't gone back to work after Christmas.  Truro versus Torquay will attract that many spectators and Torquay are non-league!

There is a good football match on today as Premiership leaders Liverpool take on Arsenal at 5.30pm.  Liverpool look worth a bet at 1/2 while I may double them up with Watford who are 17/20 to beat Newcastle.

Talking of football, I see that Declan Rice has been given a 1000% pay rise.  They have upped his wages to £30,000 per week - he must be one of the poorest players in the Premier League.  He has been at West Ham since he was 14 years old and would certainly seem to be worth more than they are paying him.
