There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Hereford and Wetherby as well as flat cards from Wolverhampton and Newcastle. David has two runners at Wetherby today courtesy of Extra Mag (pictured above) and Stream Lady. Extra Mag contests the 2m novices' hurdle at 1.15pm and our four year old is the winner of his only start on the flat in France on very soft ground. He looks a nice sort at home and he works well so a big run is expected, although this does look like a very competitive heat. Stream Lady runs in the mares' bumper at 3.25pm. She is the winner of her only start in an Irish point-to-point, the form of which was franked when the second, third and fourth all won next time. She is expected to go well under Tom Scudamore.

I thought that Nordic Combined ran a cracker in a decent novices' hurdle at Lingfield yesterday afternoon. It was a competitive race with 18 runners and he showed a good deal of promise, sticking to his task well in the straight to be beaten only 1½ lengths. The form looks solid with the winner highly regarded.

Ilaya jumped the inspection hurdle before the start of the 2m1f novices' hurdle at Sedgefield yesterday. Jockey Alan Cawley told the stewards that the filly was very difficult to pull up and accidentally jumped it. I remember one of our great jockeys jumping one of the practice hurdles in France on the way to the start and the horse fell...that would fill you with confidence wouldn't it?! Anyway, I don't want to gossip about Tom's dad!

It's actor Martin Clunes birthday. Imagine the Doc Martin star riding a horse - his ears would stop him from going very fast! Only joking - I'm a big fan of the show and of Martin...we hope you have a great day.

At least I am still in good form with the football. Both of my bets came up yesterday and there is a good match to look forward to tonight with Spurs versus Inter Milan. You can back Spurs at 3/4.

I see that Tyson Fury has lost ten stone, yet he still doesn't look fit to me in any of the pictures I have seen and I can't see him beating Deontay Wilder on Sunday.

I'm an optimistic pessimist...I look forward to thinking the worst!
