There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Ascot, Haydock and Huntingdon as well as all-weather flat cards from Lingfield and Wolverhampton. There are no runners from Pond House today, although we will be back with runners tomorrow at Exeter. Our two runners at Ascot yesterday both finished fourth. Moon Racer produced a reasonable performance on his chasing debut, jumping well, although his cause was not helped by the winner continually jumping out to his left. He looked like he would benefit from stepping back up in trip and there are definitely races to be won with him over fences. Easter Eric also finished fourth, running with credit in a decent maiden hurdle - I am sure David will be able to find him easier opportunities.

Although there are no runners from the stable today, Tom Scudamore has a promising book of rides at Haydock, not least the returning Thistlecrack in the Betfair Chase. The Betfair looks like an exciting race and even the last home will pick up over £5,000 for their trouble. I am told that Might Bite is working extremely well and he might be the one to be on first time out.

I still find it hard to believe that trainers forget to notify the stewards when their horses have had a breathing problem. Anyway, trainer Ross Chapman was fined £140 for such an occurrence at Catterick yesterday.

There is some great football action to look forward to today with Totternham taking on Chelsea on BT Sport at 5.30pm. You can back Spurs at 20/11. Meanwhile, my beloved West Ham play Manchester City but I don't think I will be backing the mighty Hammers! Fulham play Southampton and regularly when a side gets a new manager they immediately play better so Fulham could be worth an interest at 17/10.

While we are on the subject of football, how is it that Chelsea star N'Golo Kante pays more tax than Amazon and Starbucks put together? Surely it is time the government sorted these two tax dodgers out and made them pay their dues?

England were all out for 336 in their test match against Sri Lanka and it looks like it is heading for a draw. There was a great knock from Johnny Bairstow who scored 110 to help England out of a bit of a hole.
