There are just two meetings taking place this afternoon although the good news is that they are both jumps fixtures with the action coming from Sandown and Ffos Las.  David has a runner at both meetings with Rathlin Rose contesting the 3m veteran's chase at Sandown at 3.25pm and Remastered making his hurdling debut in the 2m novices' hurdle at Ffos Las at 1.25pm.  Rathlin Rose (pictured above) makes his seasonal debut this afternoon and is only 4lbs higher than when winning one of these contests at Ascot in March.  He goes especially well at Sandown and looks to have decent claims under David Noonan.  Tom Scudamore is aboard our Ffos Las runner; Remastered who looked a most promising type when beating a good yardstick on his debut for the stable in a Chepstow bumper last season.  Our five year old is an exciting novices' hurdler in the making and a big run is expected.

You have to feel a bit sorry for jockey Sean Quinlan who was banned for not jumping a fence that had been reinstated having bypassed it on the first circuit.   A similar incident occurred yesterday in the conditional jockeys' hurdle at Fontwell when all the runners bypassed a hurdle that had been cleared.  No further action was taken...I bet Sean Quinlan is feeling a bit hard done by.  They have to sort a consistent ruling with regard to the bypassing of hurdles or fences.

I understand that a punter tried to get a £3,000 bet on at Kempton on Tuesday only for the wager to be slashed to £1,000.  The bookie was made to look a proper charlie when the horse in question pulled very hard and was the first one beaten.  I don't think bookies stand big bets anymore...when I was younger I can remember seeing punters getting £20,000 on the horses and the bookies leaving the price untouched...I will add that it wasn't my money!

It could be the game of the season this afternoon as Manchester City take on Manchester United at 4.30pm.  It's on the box so you know where I will be.  I wonder how long it will be before Mourinho upsets Pep Guardiola?  At the moment they are the best of mates but you just wait until it nears kick-off time!  City are too short to back so I may stick United in a little treble with Liverpool and Cheslea.
