There are six meetings taking place this afternoon with flat fixtures from Ascot, Catterick and Wolverhampton and three jumps fixtures from Market Rasen, Ffos Las and Stratford.  The big fixture of the day is at Ascot where it is Champions' Day where there is almost £4½ million in prize money across their six race card.  It makes the £43,000 on offer at Stratford's seven race card look a little mean.  David has one runner today as Dusky Hercules (pictured above) contests the maiden bumper at Ffos Las at 5.30pm.  This half-brother of Black Hercules has had one run to date on heavy ground at Wincanton so this ground certainly shouldn't be as testing.  He is a nice type and could easily outrun his odds under Tom Scudamore.

David Noonan could be in for a good day - he has picked up five outside rides at Stratford and there look to be some decent chances among them.

What a card there is at Newmarket today with stars of the turf such as Lah Ti Dar, Roaring Lion, Cracksman and Stradivarius on display.  It looks like it could be a massive day for the John Gosden team and he should cement another flat trainers' title today.

It is Bryan Drew's birthday today and he is a very young looking 58.  Bryan is joint owner of Un Temps Pour Tout and Moon Racer to name just a couple - what enjoyment he must have had from those two horses alone.  Many happy returns Bryan, we hope you have a great day.

There are some good football matches to look forward to today with Chelsea taking on Manchester United at 12.30pm on Sky.  Surely Chelsea will be too strong for United's dodgy defense?  I will be having some of the 3/4 about Chelsea and will put them in a little multiple with Bournemouth at evens and Newcastle at 5/4.

You can watch Lewis Hamilton win his fifth drivers' championship tomorrow night at 7.10pm when the US Grand Prix is broadcast from Texas.  Or you could watch paint dry instead.  Hamilton has just signed a £120 million contract and will become the second most successful driver behind only Michael Schumacher with seven titles.  Mind you, Hamilton's Mercedes has been different class to anything else on the grid for the last five years so that certainly helps.  He is one of those people who divides opinion and upsets a lot of people, but in fairness a fifth title would be a great achievement.
