There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Brighton, Chelmsford and Wolverhampton as well as jumps cards from Carlisle and Uttoxeter.  David has one runner at Uttoxeter this afternoon; Eur Gone West who contests the two mile NH novices' hurdle at 4.30pm.  He finished third in an Irish point-to-point and he has to be better than he showed when disappointing in a couple of bumpers.  He has schooled well at home and could easily outrun his odds under Tom Scudamore.  He will don the unusual sunflower silks of owner Jane Gerard-Pearse who designed them herself for a competition - they are pictured above being modelled beautifully by young David Noonan, although I am sure Tom will look every bit as fetching!

I thought that Three Star General ran a promising race on the level at Bath after an absence of 222 days.  He stayed on well in the closing stages and will be interesting when sent back over hurdles.  I did say that the winner looked to be very well weighted and so it proved.  He was a big drifter in the morning but obliged anyway - I hope a few of you backed him.

If you follow the 'one ride' theory it would have paid off yesterday as champion jockey Richard Johnson headed all the way to Wetherby for one winning ride.  The jockeys were very complimentary about the ground at Wetherby, yet it attracted just 39 runners across the entire card.  Perhaps the course officials should start asking the trainers what sort of ground they want?!

I see that former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger could soon be back in the ranks of football managers.  He has been offered a job in China, while Real Madrid are monitoring the situation.  As far as I am concerned, he ran out of ideas at Arsenal so why should he bring anything new to the table now, especially for a team like Real Madrid?  It just seems like a merry-go-round for managers where they all swap jobs and get rich quick!

England look to be different class to Sri Lanka in the cricket.  They won the second one day international by seven wickets giving them a 2-0 series lead with just two matches left to play.

I see that Ronnie O'Sullivan has managed to upset some grumpy old men over his comments about Crawley's K2 Center, the home of the English Open snooker tournament.  The Rocket claimed that it had no atmosphere, was a "Hellhole" and smelt of urine.  They also host indoor bowling at the centre and players very upset about Ronnie's comments, as well as the snooker players walking through and disrupting their games.  O'Sullivan certainly knows how to put his foot in it!  Incidentally, despite finding it very difficult to stay motivated, Ronnie managed to knock in his 15th competitive 147 maximum break yesterday...what an enigma he is!
