There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with the action all coming on the flat from Ayr, Pontefract, Yarmouth and Chelmsford City.  Tom Scudamore's long journey up to Kelso failed to pay off yesterday as Geordiesbest could finish only fourth - it looks like he is not as good as the great footballer that he was named after...mind you, not many players were.

I see that Beverley are taking some stick about their staff accommodation.  Apparently there is no heating, stained mattresses and an awful smell among some of the complaints.  I have stayed in a few of these places and most of them are clean and tidy which in my opinion is the most important thing.  George McGrath, the Chief Executive of the National Association of Racing Staff says that the accommodation should be of a hotel standard...he must have stayed in some pretty awful hotels, that is all I can say.

All of the opening fixtures at local tracks Taunton, Exeter and Wincanton are in doubt owing to the hot summer that we have had.  Consequently the ground is unsuitably fast at present and local trainers could be forced to travel to give their horses a run elsewhere.  It is raining here at Pond House at the moment, although it sounds as though we are going to need significantly more of the wet stuff.

We heard some sad news this morning about one of Pond House's old residents.  Carryonharry was put down yesterday at the age of 24 after sustaining a pelvic injury in his paddock.  He won eleven times under rules for the team before embarking on a successful point-to-point career where he won 20 of his 30 starts.  Our sympathies are with his devoted owner Heather Silk.

Manchester City were surprisingly beaten 2-1 by Lyon in their Champions League match last night, in the process becoming the first English side in the competition to lose four consecutive Champions League matches.  Meanwhile, Manchester United won 3-0 away to Young Boys and I did manage to nick a few quid.  Christiano Ronaldo was sent off in Juventus' match against Valencia and he could miss their match against former team Manchester United.

European Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn was spotted in Liverpool on Tuesday night.  He is a big fan of the football club but managed to leave his coat in one of the taxis...let's hope it was not a green jacket!  There are only eight more days before the action all gets underway in France.  Talking of golf, I see that it has just been voted the most boring sport on television...it sounds like they must have asked Mrs Barnes!

My girlfriend told me that she wanted sex on the bonnet of her Honda Civic the other night.  I refused...if we're having sex it will be on my own Accord!  Keep smiling...
