There are six meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Doncaster, Chelmsford City, Chester, Bath, Lingfield and Musselburgh.  The big fixture of the day is at Doncaster with the feature race being the St Leger with over £1 million in prize money up for grabs.  Perhaps it is my rose tinted spectacles, but it doesn't seem to be the race that it once was when greats of the turf like Nijinsky, Oh So Sharp and Reference Point were winning it.  Anyway, the favourite is the John Gosden trained filly Lah Ti Dar who was successful at Newbury on good/soft ground.  She looks to be the one to beat with Frankie Dettori in the saddle.

It is going to be a busy day for Ryan Moore with four rides booked at Doncaster before he heads off to Leopardstown for another four rides.  Luckily for him, the racing at Leopardstown goes on until 7.10pm.  Meanwhile, Jamie Spencer has a couple of rides at Woodbine in Canada and both are forecast favourite.  These jockeys don't half rack up some miles.

I had to laugh at the removal company that took all six races to unload their lorry at Sandown yesterday.  The company name on the side of the wagon was fully visible to the cameras through the entire meeting - an excellent piece of advertising for them...I wonder if the driver received a bonus?

I am worried about my position as resident photographer at Pond House - it would seem that I have some stiff competition from one of David's assistants, Ali Galliers-Pratt.  Above is a picture that she took during her first early lot on our Wexford sand gallop.  Very nice, although I'm sure I could still teach her a thing or two!

It is Lord Harris of Peckham's 76th birthday today.  Forgive me, but the first thing I thought about was Del Boy from Only Fools and Horses!

There is some excellent football action to look forward to this weekend, none more so than the clash between Spurs and Liverpool at 12.30pm on Sky.  I am very tempted by the 2/1 on offer about Spurs.  The later match is between Watford and Manchester United and I would be surprised if United (at 21/20) are not stronger.

Ronnie O'Sullivan is grabbing the headlines once again.  He has stated that he thinks women referees should be confined to women's sports.  Having said that, he did go on to say that he had no complaints about Chinese referee Peggy Li after his Shanghai Masters semi-final victory...sounds like he is covering his back.

I saw Michael J Fox in the florists the other day...he had his back to the fuschias!  Have a great weekend...
