There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Lingfield, Bath, Ffos Las and Wolverhampton as well as a jumps fixture from Southwell.  David has one runner on the flat today as Impulsive American (pictured above) contests the 1m6f handicap at Ffos Las at 7.00pm.  He has to shoulder top-weight of 10-2 but apprentice jockey Finley Marsh (who was successful aboard Jacbequick for the stable at the track on Monday) takes a handy 5lbs off his back and he looks well-worth his allowance.  Our six year old has his first start on the level for 719 days but he has been in good form recently, finishing runner-up over hurdles on his latest start.  Should go well once again.

I see that Ascot have now adopted padded hurdles in a bid to boost equine welfare.  I personally think that all tracks should have these nowadays.  They were introduced at Newton Abbot in 2013 by Richard Linley so they are not new things.  Anything that helps the horses has to be a good thing and while they are not cheap to install (at about £30,000) you would have thought that most courses would make the investment.

4 months after the violence at Goodwood, it was good to see sniffer dogs, police and drug amnesty bins in place on a quiet Tuesday.  I think the problems will only occur on a day when the place is packed and you get a lot more non-racing people there.

It is Darren Edwards 34th birthday today.  Darren, a leading amateur jockey and brother to David's secretary Gemma, was successful aboard Maximize for Martin at the 2004 Cheltenham Festival.  Many happy returns Darren.

I can't believe what is going on at West Ham.  They were given an extra day off this week despite being bottom of the Premiership without a single point.  I think I would have cancelled their normal day-off rather than give them an additional one.  The footballers these days don't know they have been born.  Pellegrini needs to toughen up.

If Sergio Garcia gets a call-up for the European Ryder Cup team he will be the luckiest golfer alive.  He has played terribly all year but could still be one of captain Thomas Bjorn's wildcard selections.  His reputation is better than his form at present.

I went to the doctor's the other day and said, "I feel as though people can't see me clearly."  He said "Maybe you're a bit feint!"  Have a nice day...
