There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Ripon, Carlisle and Windsor as well as a jumps fixture from Newton Abbot.  David has two runners at our local track on the final day before our summer break which sees us without jumping for eight days...I don't know what I am going to do!  Anyway, back to today and the team have two favourites so let's hope they can deliver.  Celestial Path (pictured above) goes in the 2m1f handicap hurdle at 4.20pm - he has won his last two starts at Uttoxeter and Worcester and if this is another going day he should go close, even from his welter burden of 12-3.  Lochinver makes his first start for the stable when he contests the bumper at 5.25pm.  Our four year old won his only previous start in a point-to-point flat race on heavy ground.  He has had a wind operation since then and a big run is expected from him.  Tom Scudamore is aboard our pair.

We have always made sure that our jockeys walk the course to familiarise themselves with the tracks but it doesn't look like any of the twenty riders did so at Galway before the £100,000 2m7f handicap hurdle.  The entire field took the wrong course and managed to get away with it.  The stewards had a good look and (unusually) employed some common sense - as no horse gained an advantage they decided to let the result stand and no further action was taken.  I can see our stewards doing that!

I hope a few of you joined me with my Sunderland bet.  They won 3-1 at the weekend, so I am now three out of three on the football so far this season.  Meanwhile, it isn't looking good for Manchester United who seem to be falling apart.  They need to get themselves together and get some transfers deals done.  Jose Mourinho looks very unhappy and is at loggerheads with some of the board.

New Rangers boss Stephen Gerrard had a right go at the referee in the post match interview.  He said that the refs have had it in for Rangers for years - I'm not sure that is going to buy him much sympathy in future matches.

I just heard a strange fact on the radio...cows kill more people during the course of a year than all of the world's sharks put together.  I would still rather stand in a field than swim in shark infested waters!

I saw this bloke in a restaurant eating a television the other day...he was having the set lunch!
