What a performance from Dell' Arca to win at Uttoxeter yesterday afternoon under the welter burden of 12-2.  Our nine year old did not just win, he absolutely bolted up!  He obviously appreciated a bit of juice in the ground where the going was officially described as good/soft (soft in places).  I did say that he was a class act at his best and he certainly produced one of his best performances yesterday.  I just worry what the handicapper is going to do with him - he always wins in his turn, but never has much in hand of the assessor.

There are six meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Ayr, Lingfield, Windsor and Wolverhampton, while there is a jumps card from Newton Abbot.  There are no runners from Pond House today although stable jockey Tom Scudamore has picked up four outside rides at Newton Abbot.  Meanwhile, over in Ireland it is the start of the Galway Festival today where the jumps course is yielding and the flat is soft.  The easing in the ground has ensured that there are some big fields and the returning Ruby Walsh is the 11/10 favourite to be the top jockey at the seven day meeting.  He will have all the best rides and looks a good bet to me.

If you went to Wolverhampton you would have struggled to get a bet on.  There were only three rails bookmakers there to accept your wagers.  This was an extra fixture designed to help trainers who were struggling to find races owing to the fast ground.

I hope a few of you followed me on Saturday...what a race for the King George at Royal Ascot as Poets Word just got the better of Crystal Ocean after a titanic duel.  I also gave you the winner of the Dillian Whyte bout so at least the Barnes' household can eat for the remainder of this week!

What a result for journeyman golfer Richard McEvoy to win the European Open on the main tour.  He became the first ever player to win on the Challenge Tour and European Tour in successive weeks.  The Senior Open was won by colourful Spaniard Miguel Jiminez.  He goes through a funny sort of exercise to warm up then smokes the biggest cigar you have ever seen!  A very popular character.

Mrs Barnes wasn't at all happy when I gave her a ring on our wedding day...perhaps I should have text her instead?!
