Dell Runs At Uttoxeter

There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with flat action from Pontefract and Wolverhampton and a jumps fixture from Uttoxeter.  David has one runner today as Dell' Arca (pictured above) contests the 2m7½f handicap hurdle at 3.45pm at Uttoxeter.  He has to shoulder top weight of 12-2 but is a class act on his day and he should go well under stable jockey Tom Scudamore.

We had a bit of rain yesterday but nowhere near enough to get into the ground.  There was a yellow weather warning in place by the Met Office this weekend with parts of Devon expected to get 80mm of rain...I guess we will see what happens, but it is only a matter of time before there is a hosepipe ban if that rain does not materialise.

I see that Ruby Walsh has stated that he is now 100% fit and has no thoughts of retiring just yet and will be ready to go at the Galway Festival.  He points out that A P McCoy was 39 when he called it a day and Noel Fehily is still going strong at the age of 42.  In the end your body tells you when to pack it in as the injuries start to pile up.  Ruby has had his fair share of them - the trouble is, you are a long time retired.

The BHA are looking for handicap experts to form independent panels as part of racing's new handicapping appeal procedure.  It is being introduced so that connections of any horse can challenge how the handicapper has acted.  I can see them being very busy as every trainer thinks that the handicapper gives his horses too much weight.  It definitely looks like a full-time job to me.

Snooker player Jamie Jones had to borrow a cue for his first round win in the Rica Masters.  There was a mix-up on the plane which meant that his cue did not arrive on time.  It has arrived now so we will see how he fares with his usual equipment.  A snooker cue is not something you would expect to lose - I am sure he can chalk it down to experience!  A good tip would be to take it on the plane with you and then you could have a rest!  Oh dear, I think I had better stop there!
