There are four meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Salisbury, Thirsk and Lingfield as well as a jumps fixture from Southwell.  There are no runners from Pond House this afternoon, although stable jockey Tom Scudamore has picked up some outside rides at Southwell.  The best of our runners at Worcester yesterday afternoon was Kalifourchon who finished fifth in the handicap chase.  He jumped well in the main on his first start since a fall and he can certainly improve and win races over fences.

All the Arena top brass were at Worcester yesterday following criticism of the owners' facilities at the last meeting.  It is good to see them taking the matter seriously; Chief Executive Martin Cruddace assured everyone that plans were underway to make sure that they were adequately cared for in future and as a forward thinking businessman, I am sure he will get it sorted.

After watching Dustin Johnson win the St Jure Classic golf at the weekend, it seems that most of the punters want to be on him for the upcoming US Open for which he is now an 8/1 chance.  It's not really surprising - the shot he hit at the 18th to hole a 9 iron from 171 yards was just brilliant and helped him secure a 6 shot victory.  Mind you, the course at Shinnecock Hills is completely different so along with Johnson I will be backing Justin Rose at 16/1 and Justin Thomas, also at 16's.

The Shot Clock Masters in Austria was a huge success with the new time limits on shots meaning that 35 minutes was taken off the average three ball time and four slow boats were hit with penalties.  Golf needs to speed up if it is to remain popular with viewers.

I see that former world number one tennis player Novak Djokovic has taken a late wildcard for the Fever Tree at Queen's next week.  Mind you, the way he played last week the is no way he is going to be winning a tournament and certainly not Wimbledon!

There are just two days until the big kick-off in Russia.  Belgium beat Costa Rica 4-1 in their prep match yesterday and looked a lot better than England did in beating the same opponent.  Obviously I will be supporting our team, but I certainly wouldn't want to be backing him.
