At the moment we have three meetings taking place this afternoon with all-weather flat cards from Lingfield and Kempton as well as a jumps fixture from Market Rasen.  I say at the moment, because it just has not stopped raining and I cannot believe that anything other than an all-weather fixture can get the green light!  Having said that, I am not aware of any planned inspections at Market Rasen, so let's hope that it goes ahead.  The going on the Grand National is now soft with heavy patches at the Canal Turn.  If the rain continues (it is forecast to dry up a bit) the ground could be heavy all the way round and you will need an out and out stayer.

I see that there is an advertisement for a box to rent in the Sefton Stand on Ladies Day.  That is fine, but I don't think you will see many of the girls fighting from there...it will be fine if you just want to watch racing though!

I see that one National has had to be abandoned, but don't panic...I am talking about the Lamb National.  It was due to be the feature event at the Southport Flower Show this summer although it was called off after 18,000 people signed a petition to stop it.  I have seen it on television - sheep with small toy woolen jockeys on board jump over small obstacles.  I think a mountain is being made out of a molehill, but the abandonment will certainly silence the lambs.

The answers to yesterday's quiz:

* Who was the first lady to complete the Grand National course?  Geraldine Rees (Cheers, 1982)

* Which lady has come closest to winning the Grand National and what was the name of the horse?  Katie Walsh, Seabass (3rd in 2012)

* What was the name of the 51 year old grandmother who finished fifth on Fiddler's Pike in 1994?  Rosemary Henderson

On to today's questions:

* Which Scottish mountain won the Grand National in 1980?

* How many horses have won the Grand National twice?

* Which horse and jockey who won the Grand National on a Monday?

What on earth has happened to Manchester City?  They were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool in the Champion's League quarter-final last night, meaning that they lost 5-1 on aggregate.  The referee managed to get a decision completely wrong as he disallowed Leroy Sane's goal, claiming that it was offside, but the ball came off Liverpool James Milner.  The ref was the only person in the entire stadium who didn't see it, but it did not make any difference to the overall outcome with Liverpool comfortably making it through.  The big question for Liverpool is, how long can they keep hold of Mo Salah?  Tonight's match is between Real Madrid and Juventus on BT Sports 2 at 7.45pm.  Madrid are worth a bet at 13/20 and I will be doubling them with Wolves at 8/13.

The recruitment consultant asked me, "What do you think of voluntary work?".  I replied, "I wouldn't do it if you paid me!".  Have a nice day...
