This afternoon there are five meetings taking place with jumps cards from Aintree, Wincanton and Kelso as well as flat cards from Doncaster and Wolverhampton.  David has two runners at Wincanton this afternoon with It's Obvious and The Draconian both contesting the 1m7f novices' hurdle qualifier.  Tom Scudamore is aboard It's Obvious who makes his debut for the stable this afternoon having shown promise when runner-up in an Irish point-to-point - he is entitled to improve for the experience after an absence of 594 days.  The Draconian is another who is back from a lay-off and he would need to improve on what he has shown thus far to figure in what looks quite a hot little race.

You have to feel a little sorry for Wincanton as they have put some good prize money on for their fixture today.  Imagine sponsoring the novices' chase at 2.25pm - there is £32,000 up for grabs, yet it has attracted just three runners.  You would be disappointed to put your name to it, although I am sure the trainers are rubbing their hands together as even the third picks up a nice sum just for jumping round.

Lady Of Longstone posted another good effort yesterday afternoon when runner-up at Fontwell, trying to concede almost two stone to winner Roparta Avenue.  She was racing here from a mark of 102 (the same as when second at Taunton), yet the handicapper has her going up in future handicaps - seems harsh to me.  Anyway, she has posted two good efforts now so she is clearly in good heart and hopefully she will be able to regain the winning thread soon.

Miss Tynte looked to be travelling well into the straight in the bumper at Warwick but didn't seem to quite get home.  She wasn't beaten at all far and I am sure David will be finding a suitable opportunity for her in due course, possibly over hurdles.

I see England's youngsters earned a good draw with the Germans last night in their friendly match.  It was the least experienced England side that have played for 37 years and Chelsea loanee Ruben Loftus-Cheek was named as man of the match.  At least manager Gareth Southgate is giving youth a chance, hopefully something he will persevere with...at least they wanted to play for their country!

Doctor:  Just simmer down!  The old ones are the best - have a great weekend...
