Lady Reset Winner at Leicester

We have only had four runners since last writing but I am delighted it yielded two winners, one on the flat and one over jumps.  Lady Reset got the week off to a good stark by winning the flat seller at Leicester over 1m2f with Cieran Fallon in good style.  Things haven’t quite gone her way in two starts over hurdles since returning from a winter break but she hasn’t had the fast ground she loves.  She isn’t very big but has a big heart and tries hard which is all you can ask.  On official ratings she should have won the race but as we know it doesn’t always work out like this and it was nice she was able to go and do it on the day.  We had to go to £8,500 to buy her back at the auction afterwards but there should be plenty more fun to be had to her while the sun keeps shining this summer.

Koi Dodville (in second) could Debut at Weekend

The horses continue in good form which is great although it was slightly frustrating our trip to Scotland yesterday resulted in three second places!! All our horses ran their races and there were no excuses but if just one of them could have been first…

Typically, with all of the winter horses now out to grass, mother nature has decided to bucket-it down!  Indeed, over the last couple of weeks we have barely had a dry day and it has resulted in ground at many tracks that you would normally find in the depths of winter.  That includes today when we were due to run Ranco at Ludlow.

Many of the horses may be on their holidays, but there is still plenty to keep us busy around the yard at Pond House.  The empty stables will need steam cleaning and disinfecting before they are used once again, whilst general housekeeping duties still need to be adhered to to keep the place up to scratch.  We still have some horses to run over the summer months and with the sales taking place, there is little let-up in the pace.

Dell’ Arca turned back the years with a tremendous performance to land the valuable Long Distance handicap hurdle at Haydock on Saturday.  Our ever-green veteran was a popular winner under conditional jockey Fergus Gillard in a dramatic finish.  He was our third winner of the new campaign, whilst the remainder of our runners have also performed with great credit.

The stable enjoyed the best possible start to the new jumps season on Saturday when Paricolor landed the first race on the card, the selling handicap hurdle at Hexham under Fergus Gillard.  Things were to get better too when Nordic Combined (pictured above) completed a double of on the day in the two mile handicap hurdle.  With a second to add to those winners, it was certainly a worthwhile (if long) journey up north.

The 2020/21 jumps season drew to a close at Sandown on Saturday.  The final month of the season saw barely any rain (in fact, there was none at all at Pond House) and the ground dried out very quickly up and down the country.  As such we had very few runners in the closing weeks but still finished up with a very respectable tally of 52 winners and prize money in excess of £600,000.  As the jumps season concluded, the flat campaign stepped up a gear and we enjoyed a winner at Windsor last Monday with Ranco (pictured above).

The final week of an exciting 2020/21 campaign is now upon us.  Despite the delayed start owing to the Coronavirus pandemic, it has been a good season for the Pond House team with another half century of winners and a respectable strike rate.  There have been plenty of Graded winners and going forward we have some lovely young horses for the future as well as the established talent.

What an exhilarating week of racing with the Aintree Grand National Festival producing some thrilling finishes and a historic winner of the big race on Saturday.  We only had four runners at the meeting and whilst we drew a blank, there were some good performances nonetheless.  With Liverpool now in the rear view mirror things will start to wind down as we head into the closing two weeks of the season.

As we enter the closing weeks of the current campaign, the horses continue in good form, much as they have throughout.  Two more winners took our seasonal tally to 52 which is a good effort, whilst another six reached the frame.  With the Grand National meeting from Aintree starting this week, there is much to look forward to.
