It's Good Friday and that means a blank day on the racing front in this country.  It was the Lester's last night and unsurprisingly A P McCoy collected his seventeenth(!) award.  Our conditional jockey Conor O'Farrell went along - it's just as well the jockey's have a day off as I'm sure there would have been a few failed breath tests today!  Of course, the greedy bookies will be open as usual and will try to convince you that there is a whole host of wonderful betting opportunities available to you, although personally I would rather not be betting on a virtual horse or a virtual ball rolling around a virtual roulette wheel - these things get right on my pixels!

It was one of those days yesterday.  Unfortunately all three of our stable runners finished second - over at Hereford I thought that the ground (which looked pretty testing) had gone against Barton Stacey and he probably ran okay to fill the runner-up position.  The going at Exeter on the other hand was officially described as good/firm although looking at the times of the races (all considerably slower than standard), it couldn't have been that quick...either that, or there were some very moderate horses at the Devon track.  I thought that Trop Fort and Dukes Art both performed creditably in defeat under Conor O'Farrell and I am sure that David will be able to find a suitable opportunity for them in the near future.  The problem for Dukes Art is that he will be racing from a 7lbs higher mark in future handicaps, so he looks like he could do with some assistance from the official assessor.

The stable has runners this afternoon at Exeter and Hereford.  Conditional jockey Conor O'Farrell takes the rides aboard Trop Fort and Dukes Art while Tom Scudamore travels to Hereford for one ride aboard Barton Stacey.  You know what they say about jockey's going racing for just one ride...I don't know who says it, but personally I always thought it was because they couldn't get any other rides!  We look to have some good chances today and with David on the 91 winner mark for the season, he needs just nine more to reach that magic ton so let's hope for some luck today.

The stable has just one runner this afternoon, Ms Cordelia in the mares' maiden hurdle at Fontwell.  Our ex-French mare was handy on the flat in her native country and performed creditably enough at Catterick on her hurdling debut, travelling well for most of the way.  She is sure to know a bit more about the game this afternoon and will be ridden again by Tom Scudamore.

It's a quiet day on the racing front with just two meetings taking place this afternoon, on the flat at Redcar and over the sticks at Kelso - so if you are a southern racegoer you are out of luck and will have to spend the afternoon in your local betting office!  It is a quite day for the stable too, with no runners this afternoon.  I know it is a waste of time going on about it, but is there anybody with an ounce of common sense in race planning?!  It is a day off for messrs McCoy and Johnson and I expect the champ will be taking some big divots out of a golf course somewhere...I bet he is a nightmare to live with when he has no rides!

There are two meetings on this afternoon at Ascot over the jumps and Doncaster on the flat.  The stable has one runner at Ascot, Fiulin in the conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle which looks very competitive with no less than seventeen runners.  Young Tom Bellamy is in the saddle and takes off a handy 5lbs.  I don't think Tom has ridden around Ascot before, so it will certainly be an experience for him riding there.
