This afternoon the stable has one runner at Huntingdon, Grand Exit (pictured above, nearside) who takes part in the mares' novices' hurdle at 2.50pm.  Our six year old has had just one run over hurdles and performed well to finish second at Market Rasen in July on soft ground.  Again the conditions are going to prove pretty testing but she looks to have a solid chance under stable jockey Tom Scudamore.  I wouldn't be at all surprised to see champion jockey A P McCoy have a good day as he has plenty of fancied rides.  Meanwhile, the other jumps card takes place up north at Sedgefield and there are two all-weather flat meetings completing the day's action.

David had a nice winner on the flat at Kempton yesterday afternoon as Purple 'N Gold seemed to win the 1m2f handicap well despite missing the break at the start.  Jockey Jim Crowley refused to panic and soon had his mount in midfield, and quickening to the front off the home turn he had enough in hand to hold on for the win on only his second start for the yard.  We obtained him from a claimer at this course in November and he is looking like a good value buy already - he could win again on the level before making the switch to timber.

There are four meetings taking place this afternoon at Ludlow and Doncaster over the sticks as well as two fixtures on the all-weather at Kempton and Lingfield.  The stable has runners at three of those meetings - The Pier (pictured above, ridden by Michael Heard) at Ludlow, Storm Lantern (Sam Waley-Cohen) at Doncaster and Purple 'N Gold (Jim Crowley) on the level at Kempton.  Storm Lantern has his second start this afternoon - he finished fourth on heavy ground at Exeter on his racecourse debut and can only improve for the experience.  Off The Wall, an intended runner at Ludlow, does not go.

There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with two over the sticks at Chepstow and Leicester as well as an all-weather flat card at Wolverhampton.  The stable has a runner at both Chepstow (Laflammedeglorie, pictured above) and Leicester (Henok) - Tom Scudamore travels across the Severn Bridge to Chepstow, while Conor O'Farrell partners our Leicester runner.

It was another good weekend for the yard with the horses continuing to run well.  I was particularly impressed with Gevrey Chambertin who made mincemeat of his opponents on his handicap debut at Wincanton on Saturday winning by a very comfortable looking seven lengths.  Bookmakers reacted by shortening him for several Cheltenham contests - I am sure that his full brother (Grands Crus) would be very proud.

Today there are just two meetings at Plumpton and Wolverhampton to look forward to.  In fairness the Plumpton card looks to be fairly competitive with the Sussex National their feature contest.  The 3m4f trip will take some getting on this very soft ground and the winner will certainly have earned the £12,500 first prize, having said that the prize money on offer through the entire card is very commendable.  The track has always been a great favourite with the Londoners who can all jump on the train (there is a station right outside the course).  I always used to enjoy stopping at the late Barry Cope's seafood stall for a good curry...happy days!  Mind you, then I think of the M25...not such happy days!

There is a cracking day of action to look forward to today with five meetings taking place, four them over the jumps, the highlight of which is the Welsh National at Chepstow.  The other meetings take place at Sandown, Newcastle and Wincanton, while there is an all-weather flat card at Lingfield.  It looks like being a busy day for the stable with no fewer than eleven runners across three meetings.  I will be particularly interested to see how Grands Crus' full brother Gevrey Chambertin gets on on his handicap debut at Wincanton.  The race takes place at 2.05pm and I guess we will know shortly after that whether a mark of 130 is reasonable or not!
