Kevin Hollis
 Farrier

Kevin has been shoeing Martin Pipe's string for many years. He started his association with the yard in 1991 by shoeing the Sunnyside string before also taking on Purchase (the point to point yard) and Pond House.

Kevin learnt his trade from his stepfather, Freddie who first gave him the horsey bug while still at school. Kevin used to ride out Freddie's racehorses and help him with his work during the school holidays.

At the age of 22 Kevin started his apprenticeship with Freddie and regularly attended Hereford College. During this time he spent many hours attending to the donkeys at the local sanctuary. By the time Kevin was 27 he was a fully qualified farrier and is now a registered training farrier himself. His younger brother, Steven, is doing his apprenticeship under Kevin's watchful eye.

Kevin is a very popular farrier because of his quiet and placid nature around horses. He has shod for many trainers locally including Grant Cann, Gerald Cotterell, Stuart Kittow, Ferdy Murphy (when based in Somerset), Simon Burrough and Rod Millman. Kevin has won two awards for shoeing the most Grade 1 winners in a season using Victory Racing Plates. He also works alongside local vets and administers remedial shoeing treatment when necessary.

Kevin is not really a racing fanatic although he does enjoy watching the horse that he plates win.
