Job Description: Work Rider & Schoolmaster
Date of Birth:
20th May 1967

Jonothan first began to ride when he was four years old.  By the time he was ten his parents had bought him a pony, which he successfully competed on at local gymkhanas.  He progressed to Show jumping, Cross-country and also did some Eventing.  He won hundreds of rosettes.

Jonothan became a member of the Pipe team at the young age of 16.  One of the first horses that he looked after was Corporal Clinger - his all time favourite.

Jonothan had his first ride at 17 on To-Pallikari-Mou at Newton Abbot.  He finished 2nd.  He rode his first winner aboard Silver Ace at Windsor and the horse ran away with him for two miles!

Jonothan retired from race riding in May 1998 because he became an Insulin dependent Diabetic.  He rode a total of 267 winners including many good races at courses such as Cheltenham and Aintree.  In 1996 Jonothan picked up three races at the Aintree festival on Tragic Hero, Silver Shred and All For Luck.  At Cheltenham he won the 'Supreme Novice's Hurdle' on Sondrio in 1989 and also the 'Triumph Hurdle' on Kissair in 1995.  He also won the 'William Hill Handicap Hurdle' twice on Liadett in 1989 and Valfinet in 1992.

Jonothan continues to work on a full-time basis at Pond House, and his skills, judgement and experience are invaluable to the success of the team.  He still rides out several lots everyday, and he works very hard teaching the young (and old) horses how to jump properly.

Jonothan has a daughter called Bethany Grace.  Jonothan doesn't get much spare time because if he is not with his family he is playing golf, squash or riding his motorbike.
