Craig Wylie

Job Description: Travelling Head Lad

Date of Birth:        28th February 1970

Craig has had an interest in horseracing since he was very young.  After all he was a bit of a gambler at the early age of ten!

Craig taught himself to ride at the age of eleven, and his ambition was to become a jockey.  He started in racing, riding out on Saturday mornings for John Leadbetter and then Ken Oliver.  Craig then went on to work in Cleveland for Mrs Mary Reveley.  He spent a year as a stable lad and when he realised that he was unable to become a jockey because of weight, he progressed to spending two years as a travelling head lad.  After leaving Mrs Reveley Craig decided to explore part of the world.  He spent 18 months in New Zealand as a track work rider, working for Mike Maroney, who trained the winner of the 2000 Melbourne Cup - Brew.  After New Zealand he moved to the West country to take up a position at Pond House.  Craig has been working as one of the travelling head lads since November 1995.

During Craig's time at Pond House he has been to Punchestown, Auteuil and all of the British courses.  He also went to Flemington in Australia with Far Cry when he ran in the Melbourne Cup.

Craig comes from a village called Hawick on the Scottish borders where his family still live.  He now lives in a local village called Sampford Peverell with his partner Lynn and their two children, Erin Eve who was born in 1998 and Joe born in 2002.
