BOB HODGE

Job Description: Travelling Head Lad
Date of Birth: 6th July 1969

Bob was brought up in an equine background, near Lockerbie where his father, William runs a Stud and Livery yard and trains a handful of pointers.  It was unsurprising therefore that Bob sought employment with horses.  Bob's father taught him to ride at the age of ten and he went on to compete in many spheres including Team Chasing and Showjumping.  Bob was an active member of the Dumfriesshire Hunt branch of the Pony Club.

Whilst still at school Bob started in racing by riding out at the weekends for Colin Parker near his hometown of Lockerbie.  On leaving school he joined Roger Fisher and after spending two years as a stable lad he received his conditional jockeys' licence.  After two years as conditional for Mr Fisher, Bob felt in need of a change of scenery and therefore decided to move to Mary Reveley's in Cleveland.  Bob rode as a conditional while at Mrs Reveley's and he had over 700 rides in total and visited the Winners Enclosure on no less than 86 occasions.  Progressing to the position of Travelling Head Lad, Bob has been able to visit many racecourses.  The post has afforded Bob the opportunity to travel abroad and he has even ventured as far a field as Hong Kong.

Since Bob started at Pond House in late October 2000 he has driven many miles. On 20th November 2007 Bob visited Fakenham racecourse for the first time. This means that he has now visited every racecourse in the country, all 59 of them!
