This afternoon there are four meetings taking place with jumps cards at Wetherby and Fontwell as well as all-weather flat meetings from Lingfield and Kempton.  David has one runner this afternoon as Willem contests the 1.10pm race at Fontwell, a 2m5 1/2f handicap hurdle.  There may only be five runners but it is a tight little handicap with any one of the field in with a chance.  Willem is on a mark of 125 and his sole win in France came on heavy ground so today's going (soft, heavy in places) should suit him well.  He is yet to get his head in front in this country although he does have some solid placed form in decent company and he has decent claims under Tom Scudamore.

I am told that A P McCoy's new book "My Racing Life" really gets inside the mind of the champion jockey...I am quite surprised it is so long!  Only joking, although it is interesting to hear that "as far as I was concerned Pipe could have picked any one of about ten jockeys and turned them into champion jockey."  He even gets that right!  I was fortunate enough to get to know AP quite well through his nine or ten years at Pond House - I travelled a lot with him by car or helicopter down the years.  In fact, I have known plenty of world class sportsmen and AP was without a doubt the most single-minded and dedicated of them all, it isn't even close.  I remember him once asking me if I thought he had given one a bad ride...why ask me?  My riding career spanned one ride when I sat on a horse and immediately fell off breaking my wrist!  McCoy was always looking for ways to improve and it can't be easy when you are THAT good - we have been privileged to witness his supreme skill and I can assure you that our generation are never going to see his like again.

Above is a nice photograph of Gevrey Chambertin and Champers On Ice that I took whilst I was down the gallops recently.  Both are engaged in the coming days at Newbury's Hennessy meeting so you could be seeing them again sooner rather than later.

I see that Platini and Blatter are both facing life bans from football.  What I find amazing is that the whole process has taken so long.  Surely somebody at FIFA could have sorted this out years ago or was Blatter that powerful that he could stop any internal investigations.  If money has gone missing it should be prison and not just bans.

There was a good result for Chelsea last night as they won 4-0 in Tel Aviv.  Mind you, Mourinho and Costa had a bust-up at half time - hardly surprising I suppose when you consider that either one of them could have an argument with themselves!  It was a good evening too for Arsenal as they won 3-0 and now need to beat Olympiakos by two clear goals to proceed to the next round.

Things are getting quite tasty in the boxing world.  There is only another three days until the Fury versus Klitschko fight, while David Haye has announced that he is making a comeback.  As far as I am concerned, once you retire you should stay retired.  He doesn't have very much to gain and has plenty to lose.  By the way, have you seen his new haircut?  It looks as though he has seen a ghost!

I was amused to read about a prisoner who attempted to flee from Exeter magistrates court but was thwarted by an automatic disabled exit...you could say he was court out!  Keep smiling...
