The stable enjoyed a nice success yesterday as Epic Warrior became our twentieth winner of the campaign when bolting home in the maiden hurdle at Southwell under Kieron Edgar.  The former Irish point-to-point winner jumped and travelled well to win by fifteen lengths.  Our six year old really appreciated this test of stamina - the rain softened ground certainly seemed to sort them out.  It will be interesting to see what the bad man does to him when it is time to give him a rating, as we know testing conditions can really exaggerate a horses' superiority - with the second home rated 110, I hope he remembers that!  Anyway, our man on the course Gerry Supple was on hand to take the pictures and as you can see, he managed to get the delighted winning jockey, although the horse was another matter! I don't think Racing Post photographer Ed Whittaker will be worrying just yet!

Junior Package finished third in the concluding bumper and was running on at the finish.  He looks as though he will appreciate a step-up in trip when faced with a set of hurdles.  Meanwhile, For 'N' Against finished last of five in the novices' handicap chase.  He had to race off of his new mark of 120 (remember he won from 109 over timber) and despite a good round of jumping, he proved disappointing.  I am of the opinion that the handicapper has this one completely wrong and he will struggle from this sort of rating - I wonder how much he will go down for this effort?  The problem facing trainers is that if a horse is not competitive, the owners can get dejected - I was going to use some stronger language there but thought better of it...sorry, but that is just how I feel.

The stable has one runner this afternoon as Instagram makes his debut for the stable in the flat maiden at Haydock - he will be ridden by Mikey Ennis.  He was a decisive winner of an Auteuil hurdle last time and it will be interesting to see how he gets on on his first start on the level.

There is an International football match on tonight between Cyprus and Wales.  Surely Wales will win this one with Gareth Bale playing?  You can back them at 5/6 and it is covered on Sky Sports at 7.45pm.  I came back from Cyprus a month ago and it was 44°c during the day and very warm by night too.  My advice to the Welsh lads is that they keep drinking plenty of water!  Meanwhile Holland look like a good bet to beat Iceland at 4/11 and Belgium ought to beat Bosnia at 1/2...I think I might try a cheeky little treble!

England take on Australia in the latest one day cricket match and the hosts can be backed at 7/4.  The Australians only have five players who played in the World Cup Final and I reckon that England are too big at those sort of odds.  Having said that, the bookies don't often give much away, especially when it comes to the home nation.

Finally, a true story...A council has been blasted for their plans to ban cigarette breaks for staff who smoke in uniform in Nottinghamshire.  As far as I am concerned they should butt out!
