Tom Cannon was born
in Guildford on 7th June 1991, and grew up around
horses. His mother was employed in the racing industry and also
competed in point-to-points, while his grandparents used to train
pointers.
With a family background involved in horse
racing it was no great surprise when Tom decided to follow suit, and
he started his career with Amanda Perrett’s flat racing yard in
Pulborough, West Sussex where he would stay for two years.
Tom also rode out for Phil York’s
point-to-point string,
and also competed
in fifteen races himself, scoring a win a six seconds to date.
Indeed, it was his first winner as a jockey, and the schooling
sessions at Pond House that Tom picks out as the highlights of his
career to date. Of his charges at the yard Tom nominates It’s Tough
and Quel Nouba as his favourites, although he stresses that he loves
them all!
In his spare-time Tom enjoys keeping fit by
competing in plenty of sports including squash. Of his future
aspirations, Tom hopes to become a jockey – he has certainly come to
the right place!
