Eileen was born 17th June 1973 in Enfield, London. She has been working as a stable lass at Pond House since September 2001.
Eileen has been working with horses since the age of 12 when she started work for Mr and Mrs D H Clyde, Vet and Racehorse trainer in Northern Ireland. It is a small private yard where they have about eight horses in training. They also have broodmares and two stallions, which they breed from. Eileen was involved in foaling mares, rearing young stock, breaking in youngsters, hunting and many other duties that are incorporated in a small yard. They also have a small number of cattle and sheep.
Eileen was a successful amateur jockey riding a mare called 'Kate Just' to victory in two Point-to-Points and in the Joseph O'Reilly Hunter's Chase at Fairyhouse. She was also placed a further 14 times with the mare. In addition she has taken part in bumper and hurdle races and her riding career provided her with about 30 rides. With the love of horses since a very young age, Eileen feels that it is very exciting riding thoroughbreds, especially when they are winners.
Eileen has had many good times in racing and feels that leading up her first winner since joining us, Ideal du Bois Beury (Fr) at Newbury would rank highly in her list. She was also very proud when she led up the best horse she has looked after, Bounce Back, in the Grade 1 Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot, this meant a lot to Eileen as he was one of her favourites. Her favourite horse in the yard now is Comply Or Die.
Eileen would like to gain as much experience as possible, to improve her riding and enjoy herself while here at Pond House because when she returns home to Ireland she would like to put her new found knowledge to good use. One of her greatest ambitions is to lead up a Cheltenham Festival winner - let's see if we can help her achieve it!
Eileen and one of our Assistants Oliver got married in 2007. They currently live together in Rackenford along with ‘It Takes Time’ who Eileen now cares for in his retirement. Eileen enjoys reading, going to the cinema and also socialising and going out with friends. |
