Daniel Pick

Daniel started to ride at a young age and he was encouraged by his family.

Daniel was a keen member of the Tiverton Pony Club and he regularly competed in Show jumping, cross-country and in Prince Philip Cup mounted games on his pony, Fallon.  The highlights of being in the Pony Club included qualifying for the Dengie show jumping competition and competing at Olympia and narrowly missing out on a place with his team in the Prince Philip Cup Games.  With Dan's favourite being cross country it is no surprise that he also enjoys hunting - he was often seen out hunting with the local Tiverton hounds on a Wednesday when he should have been at School!

Daniel went to Uffculme school and he did his work experience at Pond House.  Although the week was made miserable by the rainy weather he was still very keen to come back! 

After leaving school he went to college to take his A-levels in Media, Business and French although he continued to work part time and ride out one day a week, weekends and holidays.  Dan was part time for three years.  During the summer of 2004 Dan started at Pond House on a full time basis and he now enjoys taking his horses racing and riding out with the rest of the team.  He regularly schools alongside good jockeys Tom Scudamore, Tom Malone and our schoolmaster Jonothan Lower!

In 2005 Dan started to ride in point to points and he enjoyed it so much that he was keen to get his amateur licence to enable him to ride under rules.  Mr Pipe gave Dan his first ride on Tizi Ouzou at our local track, Taunton in October 2005.  On his second ride, also aboard Tizi Ouzou at Exeter he led into the back straight and looked like the likely winner but unfortunately she did not stay on as hoped but still finished a respectable fifth.  Dan rode his first winner ‘Hollandia’ at Chipley Park point to point in January 2008.  Dan does not have an agent although he can be booked for rides, point to point or amateur races under rules, on 01884 840715.

Although riding is Dan's main interest he also enjoys playing football, hockey and squash that helps him stay fit.
