There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps cards from Leicester and Wetherby (who have survived an early morning inspection) and an all-weather flat card from Southwell.  David has runners at both jumps cards today, so we will start with Leicester where Delface (pictured above) contests the 1m7½f handicap hurdle at 3.50pm.  The drop back in trip looks as though it will suit and he has been coming down the weights.  He is partnered by Tom Scudamore.  Miss Tynte is our Wetherby runner and she goes in the NH novices' hurdle at 4.00pm.  She has shown form on soft ground and the weight allowances she receives will come in handy as the ground is heavy at present and by 4.00pm it is going to be extremely testing.  David Noonan is in the saddle.

Have you ever received a letter intended for someone else?  Well, the BHA sent successful businesswoman Karren Brady (now Baroness Brady) a letter congratulating her on her appointment as Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.  The letter was actually intended for MP Karen Bradley.  Furthermore, the letter was dated 2017 - you would have thought that someone would have checked the finer details before sending.  I remember when Karren Brady used to work in a shop in Forest Gate and yes, I do have the right person!

There was a great result for Swansea last night as they beat Liverpool 1-0 thanks to Liverpool's new £75 million signing Virgil Van Dijk heading the ball down for Swansea's Alfie Mawson to score.  Liverpool are a side of great potential, but they still look so open at the back they are not going to win anything unless they tighten things up.

Bristol City take on Manchester City tonight in the return leg of their EFL Cup semi-final.  Manchester City are only a goal up going into the second leg but you can back them at 1/4 - if you take the short price about the home side, you will be hoping that they turn out a decent side.

Talking of football, it looks as though Marco Silva who was sacked as Watford boss on Sunday is about to walk straight into another job in the top flight as manager of Southampton.  I am sure that being a football manager is one of the best jobs in the world - you get sacked, get a nice golden handshake, a day off and then get straight back into another lucrative job right away and repeat the process!

I see that cricketer Joe Root is set to miss England's T20 matches against New Zealand.  No, he is not having a rest.  Instead he will be chasing the money in India's Premier League, despite his coaches asking him to take a break.  You would think that players would listen to coaches, especially on the back of a moderate Ashes series.  It just goes to show the old adage is still true...money talks.

Thought for the day...sometimes all a majority means is that all of the fools are on the same side!
