Monday Morning

There are three meetings today, flat cards at Pontefract and Windsor plus a jumps card at Plumpton.  Tom Scu and David Noonan both have rides at Plumpton and Tom looks to have a couple with chances, Cohesion and Accord.   Meanwhile in America it was a good win for Zanjabeel in the Foxbrook champion hurdle at Far Hills in New Jersey.  He was last seen on the beach at Laytown in September.  He also refused at Bellewstown previously so it was a brave move from trainer Gordon Elliott to take him to America.  It rounded off a good week for the Irish trainer.

I like Gay Kellaway's quote in the paper, "don't think I'll ever go Sunday racing again in this country, dreadful experience Southwell!"  Maybe it would have been better if she had had a winner!  I had a call from a mate who went racing to Southwell yesterday.  He was moaning about the cost of £8.50 for a stein of lager and he also had to pay a £5 deposit for the large traditional glass.  It doesn't sound like anyone had a good day at Southwell on Sunday!  

It is my favourite lady amateur jockey's birthday today, Serena Brotherton is 47.  I hope she keeps going for a few more years yet, it always saves me going through all the runners - I just go with what she is riding!

It looks like both Liverpool clubs, Everton and Liverpool have got problems.  Everton got thumped at home by Arsenal and Liverpool were beaten 4-1 at Spurs.  Both teams have the worst defences in the league and need to buy some defenders in the next transfer window.  They seem to have spent all their money on attacking players, they even make my team, West Ham look not too bad!!  The first thing Spurs should do is to get Harry Kane on a new contract for over £200,000 a week and definitely do not let his contract run out!

Ronnie O'Sullivan is different class in the snooker and he won the English Open last night even though he forgot his cue!
