There are six meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Royal Ascot, Redcar, Ayr, Newmarket and Bath, while there is also a jumps card from Market Rasen.  There are no runners from the Pond House team today although stable jockey Tom Scudamore has picked up one ride at Market Rasen - it's in the last so it looks like being another late night for Tom.  There is another cracking day's action ahead of us at Royal Ascot with two Group 1's on the card and there are a couple of short-priced favourites in Caravaggio and Winter - Winter seems a little ironic given that we are experiencing one of the hottest June's in recent history.

What a finish to yesterday's Ascot Gold Cup with Big Orange prevailing by a short head from last year's winner Order Of St George, the pair of them six lengths clear of the third.  Owner Bill Gredley is a great character and has had plenty of horses at Pond House down the years and we are all delighted for him.  Bill was never afraid to tell you how things were and I can't imagine he has altered!  I thought James Doyle gave the winner a fantastic ride from the front, setting a sensible pace and saving just enough to hold on - Ryan Moore on the other hand...

I have been enjoying ITV's coverage of the Royal Ascot meeting.  Matt Chapman is as annoying as ever, just a (slightly) slimmed down version of Big Mac.  I have to admit though, he does make for good viewing.  I am not so sure about all the fashion correspondents - I think you could put a lot of those people in a big field and they would be happy enough as long as the drinks kept flowing!  I wonder who those comments will upset?!

England's under 21 footballers looked impressive as they beat Poland 3-0 to progress to the semi-finals of the European Championships last night.  With the under 20's recently winning the World Cup, the future is looking bright - let's just hope that these players go on to progress at senior level.

I see that F1 driver Lewis Hamilton has said that when he retires from motor racing he would like to climb Mount Everest...he must have heard there is a party taking place up there!  Or maybe it is a publicity stunt and he has just signed an endorsement deal with the window company?!

I bet Mrs Barnes £100 that I could make a car out of spaghetti.  You should have seen the look on her face as I drove pasta!  Keep smiling...
