There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with a flat card at Ripon as well as jumps cards from Market Rasen and Stratford. David has one runner today as Stay Out Of Court contests the 3m2 1/2f handicap hurdle at Stratford at 3.50pm.  He was a faller last time out when in with every chance and if he can repeat his previous efforts he should be in with every chance this afternoon.  Stable jockey Tom Scudamore is in the saddle.

I was amused to see a picture of another former member of staff in the Racing Post yesterday - it was of former stable lad and conditional jockey Owen Burrows who is now enjoying life as a trainer in Newmarket having taken over the string of Barry Hills.  Time does not look to have been particularly kind to Owen - he needs to take things a little easier, surely training is not that stressful?  Especially on the flat!

All of the racecourses seem to be going in for music after racing and I loved the DJ's playlist at Newmarket.  He quickly followed-up 'Long Hot Summer' with that timeless classic 'Lovely Day'...this inspite of the heavy rain!  As you know by now, very much my sense of humour.

Every day there seems to be money for a different Derby contender.  This time it is Dubai Thunder that has come in for support - he only won a 1m2f maiden at Newbury on Friday but he is already as short as 12/1 for the Epsom Classic.  The bookmakers really seem to like shortening these horses to unrealistic price and don't really deserve the punters money.

There is a full programme of football action this afternoon so  you know where I will be!  I will be having a little wager on Arsenal at 4/9, Spurs at 8/15, Manchester United at 7/4 and Southampton at 4/5 - they all look like good things to me.

I see that the first player picked from the NFL (American Football) draft has signed his contract with the Cleveland Browns and the defensive lineman will be paid $23.3 million plus a $15.5 million signing bonus.  When his rookie contract (generally around 5 years) is up he will be able to command considerably more if he has been successful - where do these teams get so much money?

Rumour has it that Wayne Rooney could have played his last competitive match at Old Trafford - he will start on the bench for today's game against Crystal Palace.  I hope United treat him well as he has been a fantastic servant to Manchester United and deserves a big send-off.

A man goes into a library and asks for a book about probability.  The librarian says, "It might be on one of those shelves over there!"
