There are three meetings taking place this afternoon with jumps fixtures from Plumpton and Market Rasen while there is an all-weather flat card from Wolverhampton.  Tom Scudamore travels all the way to Plumpton for one outside ride aboard Hadfield in the 3.00pm - he is likely to be a big price and I think I will probably give the 'one ride theory' a swerve today.  For those of you who like pub quizzes, a new question was written over the weekend...who is the highest earning racehorse of all time?  It is Dubai World Cup winner Arrogate who took his career earnings (in less than a year) to a little shy of £13 million - he certainly doesn't ply his trade around Wolverhampton!

JP McManus' retained jockey Barry Geraghty has said that it was not easy watching the Cheltenham Festival from the sidelines.  He is looking forward to Aintree's Grand National meeting where he looks to have a nice book of rides waiting for his return including Champion Hurdler Buveur d'Air, Cheltenham Festival winners Defi du Seuil and Stayers' Hurdle third Unowhatimeanharry to name just a few.  For any top sportsman to sit out the pinnacle of their sport must be hard to do, especially when you would have been aboard winners.

England's footballers managed to get a result as they beat Lithuania 2-0 to go top of their group.  It seems that we usually qualify for the latter stages of the big competitions but that is as far as we ever get.  It was good to see veteran striker Jermaine Defoe score England's first goal and the manager is backing him for Russia.  Are we that short of young top class strikers?  The answer is obviously yes!

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel put one over on Lewis Hamilton with a decisive success in Melbourne yesterday.  Hamilton says that the art of overtaking is going to be lost...I wonder if he would have said that if he had been stood on the top step of the podium?!

Boxer Lawrence Okolie knocked out Geoffrey Cave in 20 seconds and then apologised to the fans who arrived late and missed his win.  It was his first professional fight and he joked "Sorry to everyone that missed me fighting!".

I made a stew out of rugby players - it was scrummy!
