There are five meetings taking place this afternoon with flat cards from Sandown, Docaster, Haydock and Beverley while there is also a fixture over the sticks at Newton Abbot.  I have said it time and again but Newton Abbot do an excellent job - they have managed to secure more prize money for their card today than two of the flat meetings put together.  David has two runners at the meeting; Amigo who runs in the staying handicap hurdle at 3.45pm and Dusk Till Dawn in the staying handicap chase at 4.50pm.  On his penultimate start Amigo finished fifth in the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival and a reproduction of that effort would see him go close on this return to hurdles despite the burden of top weight.  Meanwhile Dusk Till Dawn is still 8lbs higher than when winning over course and distance so he is going to need to find a bit of improvement.  They are both ridden by Tom Scudamore.

I will be watching the European Cup football tonight as Wales take on Belgium at 8.00pm on BBC1.  This is probably the biggest match in Welsh footballing history although they do look up against it as Belgium have been pretty impressive so far.  Wales are a best priced 5/1 to win but I think I will just watch this one and hope that Wales can get a result.  My mate tells me that the best thing to come out of Wales is the M4 although I think that is perhaps a little harsh!

What about Portugal?  They have managed to get to the semi-finals without actually winning a game in regulation time!  Last night they beat Poland on penalties - they will certainly need their talisman to come good if they are going to get much further.

I see that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is joining Manchester United.  He scored 38 goals in the top flight in France last season with Paris St Germain - he won't score anything like that in the English Premier League I am sure.

Tara Moore is the last British girl still in Wimbledon after both Johanne Konta and Heather Watson both lost yesterday (Watson having held three match points).  Konta said she really enjoyed being out on court competing - personally, I didn't enjoy competing unless I was winning...it's a funny old world!  Tara Moore takes on Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova on court 3 today...fortunately we still have Andy Murray!
